The Sacramento theatre community is growing and so is the League of Sacramento Theatres. The Sacramento theatre scene has grown by leaps and bounds in just the last three years. Sacramento audiences today support 5 professional theatres (theatres offering equity or professional contracts to actors), a thriving community theatre scene, and active theatre programs supported by two major universities and four community college programs. Sacramento has also seen the addition of two major destinations for live entertainment - the Wells Fargo Pavilion and the Mondavi Center. Theatre in Sacramento, now more then ever, is a part of the fabric of the city’s cultural life.
As the number of theatres in Sacramento grows, so too do the number of directors, producers and actors that make them happen. It is for that reason that we believe that Sacramento needs the League of Sacramento Theatres to advance, advocate and promote live theatre in the region.
We will continue to grow as an organization, staying close to our roots, and providing the chance for directors and producers to connect, learn from each other and exchange ideas. We look forward to increasing our role as advocates in the community by raising the visibility of live theatre with city and media leadership. We are expanding our presence on the web - creating a true center for all things theatre - and we will continue to offer informative and interesting quarterly forums on issues affecting the Sacramento theatre community.
At the League of Sacramento Theatres we believe the best way to ensure a seat at the table, as Sacramento grows, is to be united as a community as we advance our collective goal - live theatre and lots of it!
